On Sunday, May 3rd, VT UCF will be teaming up with the Bradford Conservation Commission to celebrate Arbor Day and to have a work day in the Wright's Mountain/Devil's Den Town Forest.
The Wright's Mountain/Devil's Den Town Forest was acquired in 1994 at 218 acres and since then, an additional 299 acres has been added through a partnership with the Upper Valley Land Trust. Over the years, volunteers have built and maintained over 8 miles of hiking trails and residents and visitors use these trails for non-motorized recreation. There is a cabin at the summit of the mountain; the highest point in Bradford.
The Bradford Conservation Commission (BCC) manages the Wright's Mountain/Devil's Den Town Forest and maintains the trails and three trailhead parking areas, all with the help of dedicated volunteers. The BCC holds events in the forest, such as full-moon hikes, campfires and cook-outs, outdoor education events, tree identification hikes, and the annual Race to the Top, a 3.5 mile foot race for adults and a 1.5 mile kids fun run/walk.
We will be putting in a couple of hours of good, hard work to help the BCC prep and groom the trails for the events of the summer, and will also be planting a tree in downtown Bradford. We are currently seeking 5-10 volunteers to join us! Details of the day:
Time: 12pm - 5:30pm
Location: Meet at the Wright's Mountain Road parking area and trailhead; volunteers will split into teams and work on approximately 2.5 miles of trails; after trailwork is complete we will head into downtown Bradford for a community tree planting ceremony.
To sign up to volunteer: email Elise with VT UCF by Friday, May 1st
Refreshments will be provided
